2004 - Bali, Indonesia
20 November 2004 - 25 November 2004

Day 3 (continued): A dinner feast
Our special Made's Warung dinner, bebek betutu (pictured above), consisted of duck rubbed with herbs, spices and chillies inside and out before being wrapped in banana leaf and steamed. Once the duck is perfectly tender, the package is put over charcoal to impart a faint barbecue flavor. Delicious vegetables accompanied the slightly spicy duck. This dish comes highly recommended. (Note: restaurants need one day notice for ordering the dish, which is typically reserved for festivals.) This was the BEST meal on the whole vacation and it was only $11!! We both start salivating just thinking about it.

Day 4: Rafting adventures
The next morning, we decided to go water rafting and started off waiting to be picked up by the rafting company's van. Below are pics of our massive hotel lobby as well as the scenery we drove past while in our white van. Indonesians are skilled at gracefully balancing tons of things on their head (as demonstrated below). Who needs a backpack in this country when all you need is a weave basket, a strong neck, and a flat head?
