2003 - Koh Sa Mui, Thailand
27 July 2003 - 01 August 2003

Big Buddah
We set out in search of the Big Buddah (pictured above), one of Koh Sa Mui's landmarks, on the morning of July 29th and found the northern coast of the island (where the Big Buddah Resides) to be pretty sunny and hot.

A signed posted next to the gated entrance leading into the Wat (temple/shrine) and ultimately to the base of the Big Golden Buddah statue itself informed visitors about the history of the area. Unfortunately for us, we noticed an additional sign requesting that visitors be in "polite" attire and since both of us were in our bathing suits at the time, we spent a quick fifteen to twenty minutes taking snapshots of smaller statues in the area and perusing the small shops and restaurants nearby before heading off in our scooter to a cooler part of the island.

On our way out, Paul noticed that we could see the Zazen Bungalows, our resort, from the Big Buddah, so we stopped off to take a photo (below) of Bohput Beach in the background. If you look really closely, you can see the red/orange roofs that the Zazen Bungalows are so well-known for.

We soon found ourselves enjoying a taro popsicle (only 10 baht) while sitting in the cool shade of a 7-11 store. These purple and white colored taro popsicles turned out to be one of our favorite treats on the road when we found ourselves in need of something sweet and refreshing.
