![]() Our Honeymoon - Kauai, Hawaii 30 June 2002 through 06 July 2002 We decided to set a goal during one of our afternoons of exploring, to try to see how far we could drive up Mount Wai'ale'ale towards "The Garden Isle" (aka "The Separate Kingdom"), located in the center of Kauai (pictured above). It is no surprise that with an average of 485 inches of rain per year, this designation also happens to be the wettest spot on earth. As our journey took us closer and closer to our goal, intense rain, flooded waters (pictured below), and muddy, slippery paths prevented us from getting to our actual destination (we like to think that we came close, nevertheless). We opted to change paths and take a drive towards less-rain-beaten paths around the island instead. Along our drive, we stopped at the Wailua River State Park to take a picture of the water fall which was used to film the opening of television show Fantasy Island. We also stopped off at the Kilauea Lighthouse, a national historic lighthouse and bird sanctuary. There was a box at the front of the lighthouse requesting a $2 donation, but since we both had neither enough loose change nor small bills at the time, we simply by-passed the box and stole a quick picture (below) to capture this daring moment in time. Here are more pictures from our honeymoon in Kauai, Hawaii (below). To view a bigger version of the pictures below, simply click on the thumbnail.
